Peaceful In the Deep

“You don’t have to learn how to control your thoughts; you just have to stop letting them control you”

The ability to think for ourselves is one which has been forgotten and possibly disregarded by many. Who knew man would rather live a life where their greatest strength and defence is abused by another. If you look at the creatures that exist on earth, each one uses their God given gift not only to survive but to live. Yet we are a species that takes this power that sits between our ears for granted.

Could it be that once you have learnt how to think, it is difficult to stop and quiet the mind. It seems as if, the world is asking for our attention and distractions are constantly in search for us. Moments when we have an opportunity to be at peace, we are disrupted by thoughts of doubt and worry descends into our minds. So, what is the cause of this torment, is it technology, society or our minds?

I have learnt that to have freedom, one must have full responsibility and accountability of what they have management of. What do I mean? Well put it this way, irresponsibility is to transfer blame unto something or someone else. It is not the act of thinking which is the problem, it is the inability to let go of thoughts which do not serve us.

It is said that the story that is being told in our mind is the story we are experiencing, as within so without. Freedom of such kind therefore does NOT begin with determination to control all thoughts, but rather by acceptance and with the renewal of the mind. True some thoughts are not of importance however to be free from thoughts of doubt, anxiety, fear or loss, we must accept and seek to understand the reasoning behind them and the lesson which they teach. Only then can you finally find your peace, quiet the mind and the soul will speak.

“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it” – Henry Ford

Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life – Proverbs 4:23
